BREAKING: New Virginia Economy Grows Under Governor McAuliffe’s Leadership

by Democratic Party of Virginia

Under the leadership of Governor McAuliffe and the support of Democrats, Virginia's unemployment rate is down to 4.1 percent, labor force has reached a new record high with the fifth consecutive month of growth, and Virginia’s employment figures  have experienced the most significant monthly increase in the United States.

Here are some key takeaways:
  • 4.1 percent unemployment rate in December 2016 - Governor McAuliffe inherited a 5.4 percent unemployment rate from Republican Governor Bob McDonnell
  • Initial unemployment claims for 2016 are the lowest since 1973 - a record 43 year low
  • Virginia's labor force has increased for the fifth consecutive month - setting a new record

While Republicans resort to "alternative facts" about the economy under the leadership of Governor McAuliffe and Virginia Democrats, the real facts are clear -- Virginia's economy is strong and growing stronger.

"Governor McAuliffe's leadership, job creation, and commitment to fighting for Virginians continues to bolster Virginia's economy in key areas. We must fight to elect Democrats at all levels in Virginia to build upon and continue this progress," said Emily Bolton, Communications Director of the Democratic Party of Virginia.
