RICHMOND, Va. - Democratic Party of Virginia Chairwoman Susan Swecker today congratulated State Senator Jennifer McClellan and human rights advocate Yasmine Taeb for being honored by EMILY's List at yesterday's We Are EMILY conference and gala.

“We’re so proud to have two Virginia women honored by EMILY’s List,” said Chairwoman Swecker. “It’s exciting to see their work on behalf of our state and our nation being recognized by such a prestigious organization that supports progressive women. It is clear that women are and will continue to be a driving force of the resistance here in Virginia.”

Senator McClellan was honored on the stage of the gala for her work in the Virginia General Assembly. McClellan was a finalist for the 2017 Gabrielle Giffords Rising Star award, which celebrates women serving in state or local office. During her time in the Virginia state Senate, she has maintained a focus on civil rights activism and support for survivors of sexual violence. She is a member of the Democratic National Committee.

Taeb received the 2017 We Are EMILY award for her advocacy on behalf of immigrants and Muslim Americans as a Friends Committee on National Legislation Lobbyist for Human Rights and Civil Liberties. In addition to her work with the FCNL, Taeb is a member of the Democratic National Committee and has worked on several national and state political campaigns.
