DPVA Statement on Governor McAuliffe’s Veto of LGBTQ Discrimination Bill

by Democratic Party of Virginia

Democratic Party of Virginia (DPVA) Chairwoman Susan Swecker released the following statement on Governor McAuliffe vetoing legislation designed to discriminate against members of the LGBTQ community:

"Moments ago, Governor McAuliffe vetoed a bill that would have granted a far-reaching license to discriminate against members of the LGBTQ community and their families. This serves as a powerful reminder of how Governor McAuliffe and Democrats are securing Virginia's place on the right side of history. Look no further than our neighbor in North Carolina to see the damaging effects of this type of legislation.

"Governor McAuliffe, Lieutenant Governor Ralph Northam, and Attorney General Mark Herring have been tireless advocates for equality and they've shown Virginians what a difference that can make."
