New jobs numbers show Trump’s recession is still leaving millions struggling

by Democratic Party of Virginia

Richmond, VA — The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics released its August jobs report this morning showing unemployment levels are still near their peak during the Great Recession. With just two months until Election Day, 11 million more workers are out of a job compared to February, and Virginia’s unemployment rate is nearly three times what it was at this point last year.

“With just 60 days until Election Day, Donald Trump is presiding over the worst economy Americans have faced in a generation. These jobs numbers are just another sign that his responses to the pandemic and the economic crisis it caused have fallen flat for millions of Americans.

With nearly 300,000 more Virginians out of work now compared to last year, working families in our Commonwealth need a president who will prioritize them over big corporations and Wall Street. But with federal unemployment benefits expired and an eviction crisis looming, Donald Trump is letting them down day after day,” said DPVA Communications Director Grant Fox.
