Nick Freitas says people won’t have “any problem” getting health care if the ACA is repealed, but over 70,000 in VA-7 stand to lose coverage

by Democratic Party of Virginia

Richmond, VA — Nick Freitas is desperately trying to cover up his disastrous views on health care that include calling the Affordable Care Act a "cancer," casting the single vote against a bill to prevent insurers from discriminating against those with autism, and voting for a bill expanding short-term health plans that often don’t cover preexisting conditions. The only problem? He's relying on false claims and outright lies to hide his record.

In a recent interview with 8News in Richmond, Freitas told one of his worst lies to date. When asked what would happen if the Affordable Care Act was repealed (something he called for just days before), Freitas replied, "I really don’t think there’s going to be any problem making sure that everyone can still get care."

Newsflash: millions of Americans would face higher costs and problems getting the care they need, including over 70,000 Virginians in the 7th Congressional District who would lose their coverage if the ACA is repealed, according to a recent analysis. Worse still, there are 329,600 residents of the 7th who have a pre-existing condition and would see their insurance costs rise.

"Nick Freitas is serious about repealing the ACA, so he should be serious about owning the disastrous consequences of his health care plans. Instead, he's trying to lie to voters while taking big money from the insurance companies who stand to gain if the ACA is repealed. Let's make one thing perfectly clear: tens of thousands of Central Virginians would lose their health care if Nick Freitas has his way," said DPVA Communications Director Grant Fox.
