DPVA Statement on National Voter Registration Day

RICHMOND, Va. – Democratic Party of Virginia Chairwoman Susan Swecker today issued the following statement in recognition of National Voter Registration Day, which is celebrated annually on the fourth Tuesday of September:

“Voting is a fundamental right, and we as Democrats remain committed to ensuring that everyone who is eligible to vote can do so without obstruction. On this day, we urge every eligible Virginian who has not yet done so to register to vote. We also re-commit ourselves to the fight against Republican attempts to suppress the vote through fearmongering and intimidation. From Governor McAuliffe’s refusal to give sensitive voter data to Donald Trump, a move emulated by 43 other states, to our call for the resignation of Clara Belle Wheeler, we as Democrats will continue to stand up to anyone who aims to dissuade people from voting or otherwise improperly influence elections.”

The deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 7 general election is Oct. 16. For more information about how to register to vote in Virginia, visit elections.virginia.gov.
