Nancy O'Brien
Charlottesville
Nancy O'Brien has become invaluable as both a support system and a volunteer for Connie Brennan's campaign for the House of Delegates in the 59th District. Nancy, the first woman mayor of Charlottesville, has spent her life helping the community and working with the Democratic Party.
Nancy says she is a Democrat because "Democrats have a history of standing up for people - the disenfranchised to the well-enfranchised."
Nancy has dedicated every Thursday from June through Election to make the 40.4 mile trek from her home in Charlottesville to the Brennan Campaign Headquarters to help out with any odd projects. She has raised more than $12,000 for Connie, single-handedly organized an unbelievably successful event with Connie and Governor Mark Warner with less than two weeks notice, and serves on our Albemarle County event planning committee which spearheads all meet-and-greet and fundraising activities in Albemarle County and Charlottesville. Nancy constantly recruits volunteers and works tirelessly to promote Connie and the campaign.
Nancy says she is supporting Connie because "Connie knows how to incorporate the ideas of her constituents in public policy. She is capable and has proven her ability to work with a wide variety of constituents and move the community-driven agenda, based on people's needs, wants, and the public benefit, forward."
Connie considers Nancy not only a faithful volunteer, but an advisor and a good friend. "If I had ten pages, it would not be enough room to say what Nancy means to me. She is a friend, a teacher, a counselor and is truly an angel for this campaign. Her sense of humor always carries us through the troughs, and her wisdom and energy are boundless."
Nancy is a former nurse and a former public administrator - having been Director of the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission for 17 years. She served as Mayor of Charlottesville, as a Charlottesville City Councilor, as a planning commissioner, and as a housing authority commissioner. Nancy currently serves on the Department of Housing Authority and Community Development Board and the Virginia Housing Development Authority Board. She is also the chair of the Advisory Committee for the Virginia Community Capital Bank. Nancy has four children, three grandchildren and resides in Charlottesville with her husband and fellow-former Mayor Francis Fife.
Nancy founded the Leadership Legacy PAC, which is devoted to assisting women in the Charlottesville area to run for state and local office.
