Braden Johnson, Executive Intern
Braden joined the DPVA in May of 2019 as an executive intern. She is a rising senior at Christopher Newport University and is majoring in political science and communication. Last summer she studied abroad in six countries, including the Netherlands, Switzerland, France, Germany, Belgium, and Luxembourg.
Esi Oyofo, Executive Intern
Esi Oyofo will be graduating Virginia Commonwealth University in the spring of 2020. She will be graduating with a bachelors of arts in Political Science with a concentration of Human Security and a minor in Religious studies. In her free time, she enjoys listening to music, eating delicious foods and spending time with her family.
Ethan Lynne, Executive Intern
Ethan is a 15 year old executive intern with the DPVA, he is a sophomore at Patrick Henry High School. He lives in Ashland, Virginia with his sister Lucy and his parents Andy & Karen. When not in the office, he enjoys watching the news and playing with his dog Rocket.
Mariah Diederich, Operations Director
Mariah is a Political Science and Philosophy double major at the University of Mary Washington but is excited to be spending her summer working as an intern at the Democratic Party of Virginia in her hometown of Richmond. She is passionate about getting Democrats elected and creating effective public policy. Beyond politics, Mariah can be found spending time at the pool and taking a contemporary dance class.
Leah Smart, Finance Intern
Leah is a rising junior at Harvard University. She works within the Finance Department, and she is a member of Harvard’s Dance Team.
Michelle Pyliaris, Finance Intern
Michelle Pyliaris is a senior at VCU School Of Business. She is finishing her Business and Media degree in December 2019 and hopes to continue her career in finance. “My internship with the DPVA finance department has been a wonderful experience with a great team that I hope to work with again in the future.”
Nick Tarplee, Finance Intern
Originally from upstate New York, Nick is a rising senior at SUNY Binghamton University. He is majoring in political science and is interning in the finance department. In his free time, Nick enjoys spending time with his two nieces Aubrey and Alayna, and his nephew Michael.
Savannah Kingery, Finance Intern
Savannah is an intern in the finance department. She attends Centre College in Danville, Kentucky and is currently pursuing a major in International Studies with a minor in Spanish. Savannah is on the swim team at Centre.
Payne Tarkenton, Finance Intern
Payne is a graduate of Virginia Tech, where he earned a degree in Political Science with a double major in History. He will be starting graduate school at Virginia Tech in the fall, where he will be pursuing a Master of Arts in Political Science. He has been an active member of the Young Democrats at Virginia Tech and NextGen.
Alex Brandolino, Political Intern
I am a rising junior and political science major at UCLA. I was born in Rome, Italy, lived in Bratislava, Slovakia for three years, but mostly grew up in Arlington, Virginia. Coming from a family of public servants, I am passionate about making a difference in people’s lives, namely by promoting progressive causes and policies.
Carlos “Alessandro” Serrano, Political Intern
Alessandro is an intern for the political department. He is currently at the University of Richmond majoring in Philosophy, Politics, Economics, and Law with minors in Physics and Mathematics. In his free time, he practices photography and studies languages.
Fikir Zelalem, Political Intern
Born and raised in Addis Ababa Ethiopia, Fikir is a rising senior at Virginia Commonwealth University majoring in international studies with a concentration on international social justice and a minor in french. Outside of DPVA, Fikir spends her time going to art museums and showing off her cooking skills on her instagram cooking blog.
Khaila Nelson, Communications Intern
Khaila Nelson is an intern in the Communications department. She is a rising junior at the University of Mary Washington double-majoring in Political Science and Women’s and Gender Studies. A fun fact about Khaila is that she taught herself calligraphy last summer.
Ryan Shaw, Communications Intern
Ryan is a Communications Intern for the DPVA. He will be a Senior at the University of Richmond in the Fall. Originally from Washington State, Ryan’s dream job is to be starting catcher for the Seattle Mariners.
Noah Hyman, Digital Intern
A Virginia local growing up in Rockville, Noah attends Christopher Newport University and will be graduating this fall with a bachelors in Communications and a minor in Psychology. He intends on pursuing a PhD in Experimental Psychology after graduating from Christopher Newport University. In his free time, Noah enjoys listening to music and cheering on the Washington Nationals.
