by Democratic Party of Virginia

Richmond, VA – Susan Swecker, Chairwoman of the Democratic Party of Virginia, released the following statement after Richmond Police thwarted a planned mass shooting on July 4th after receiving a tip that led to the arrest of two men.

“On behalf of the Democratic Party of Virginia, I want to thank the hero citizen and the Richmond Police Department for stopping this cowardly attempt to take the lives of innocent Virginians. I commend the RPD for their incredible work keeping our community and Commonwealth safe. We are, as always, indebted to them for their swift actions.

“Time and time again, we have been forced to witness horrific gun-related tragedies – in Columbine, in Virginia Tech, in Virginia Beach, in Uvalde, in Highland Park and in so many communities across the country. Every single life lost to gun violence leaves a hole in not just those communities, but everywhere in our nation – a gap that cannot be filled with thoughts and prayers. People are left without their parents, their siblings, their children, neighbors, and friends. We are in the midst of a gun violence epidemic in our country, and we owe it to past and future victims to solve it.”
