The Democratic Party of Virginia (DPVA) Chairwoman Susan Swecker released the following statement after Derek Kitts and Congressman Morgan Griffith faced off in the only 9th Congressional District Debate:

"Derek Kitts has shown Virginians in the 9th Congressional District that he is committed to representing the people and needs of Southwest Virginia. A veteran and native son of far Southwest Virginia, Derek understands why people worry about good paying jobs and education, and he has the fresh perspective and energy to tackle the tough issues.

"Southwest Virginians are tired of Congressman Morgan Griffith who went to Washington and never came back. With each passing day, it's clearer that Griffith doesn't care about the folks he left behind as he becomes increasingly out-of-touch with the district he claims to represent.  

"The 'Fighting Ninth' deserves an authentic representative who believes in duty and service to our country and district above all else: that person is Derek Kitts."
