Youngkin will block any progress on stopping gun violence
Richmond, VA — Today, Terry McAuliffe and the Democratic ticket met with Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords for an important conversation about gun violence prevention and the road ahead in Virginia’s fight against gun violence. Glenn Youngkin, on the other hand, is advancing a dangerous, NRA-approved agenda that would put more guns on the streets.
Youngkin has said that rolling back efforts to stop gun violence is a top priority of his and has told Virginians that he would refuse to support any gun safety legislation whatsoever.
"I will not sign a piece of legislation that has anything to do with imposing limitations on our Second Amendment." —Glenn Youngkin
When asked what gun safety legislation he’d support, Youngkin said that:
"I think we need to be fully clear: None. We have to actually stand up against all of the legislation that has been passed by the Democrats...I'm a lifetime member of the NRA, I understand what it means for the people to have the right to keep and bear arms. And as your governor, we will not just stand up, but we will push back -- but we will push back."
As noted by the Washington Post Editorial Board, Youngkin poses a threat to gun safety measures such as universal background checks and red flag laws. Youngkin stands with the NRA and has doubled down on his desire to put more guns into Virginia communities if elected. Glenn Youngkin’s extreme Republican agenda is dangerously wrong for Virginia.
