John Kasich: New To Virginia, Same Old GOP Ideas

by Democratic Party of Virginia

Fresh off of slipping early-state poll numbers, John Kasich is trying his luck in Virginia today, bringing policies that are out-of-touch with Virginia's families. While it may be his first stop in the Commonwealth, Kasich's ideas are nothing new -- he's bringing the same failed GOP schemes as previous visitors like Donald Trump, Jeb Bush and Ted Cruz.

John Kasich, like the rest of the GOP, prioritizes the wealthy over working class families. Just look at the tax breaks he gave to the wealthiest Ohioans while slashing support for local governments.

When it comes to undermining women’s health care, John Kasich might as well be another Ken Cuccinelli. He's decimated the women’s health landscape in Ohio, signing legislation dubbed ‘one of the country’s most stringent anti-abortion bills.' And he would do the same as President.

John Kasich, like the rest of the GOP, opposes marriage equality, putting him completely out of step with the majority of Virginians and the progress we've made on this issue.

John Kasich has no problem leaving students behind. Ohio received an “F” in higher education funding under John Kasich, and its charter school system is rife with waste, fraud, and abuse. Kasich also slashed $1.8 billion for public schools, while cutting taxes for the wealthy and shifting the burden to local communities.

“John Kasich is wrong for Virginians. From putting wealthy special interests before the middle class, decimating women's health care choices and even failing to support marriage equality, Kasich is out of touch with the Commonwealth," said Susan Swecker, Chairwoman of the Democratic Party of Virginia.
