RICHMOND, VA – In response to growing evidence that Republicans in Congress are likely to shut down the federal government, Virginia Democratic Party Chairwoman Susan Swecker made the following statement. 

“In just eight days, the extremists in Congress will have gotten their way - shutting down our government putting our economy, national security and Virginia’s hardworking families in harm's way. If these MAGA Republicans shut down the government, it’s Virginians who will pay the biggest price from federal closures, to eliminating head start spots, to delaying infrastructure, just to name a few. These same extremists who are shutting down the government in Washington are the ones trying to take total control of Virginia’s government in the upcoming elections. Virginians are getting a sneak peak of what having these far-right, MAGA candidates in charge looks like and it's a stark reminder for Virginia voters how reckless and dangerous the MAGA extremists really are.”
