RICHMOND, VA – Today, Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton of Virginia’s 10th District announced that she has been diagnosed with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, or PSP – often misdiagnosed as Parkinsons – and will not be seeking reelection.

After Congresswoman Wexton’s announcement, DPVA Chairwoman Susan Swecker released the following statement:

“Today, the thoughts of all Virginians are with Congresswoman Wexton, her family, her staff, and her constituents. Her years of dedicated public service and tireless advancement of LGBTQ civil rights, gun safety reform, labor rights, and affordable healthcare have immeasurably improved the lives of all Virginians.

Entering Congress as a part of the 2018 Blue Wave, Congresswoman Wexton’s career as a public servant has always been guided by a steadfast commitment to her constituents – not only on the floor of the U.S. House, but as Loudoun County’s Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney and as a State Senator.

Congresswoman Wexton’s courage, strength, and honesty in the face of her diagnosis underpin the long list of virtues she has carried with her to Capitol Hill. As she prepares to enter her final year in the U.S. Congress, she has the appreciation of a grateful commonwealth.
