Call to Caucus for Committee Reorganization

Pursuant to the authority provided by the Virginia Democratic Party Plan, the Charlotte County Democratic Committee hereby calls an assembled caucus beginning at 7:00 p.m., Monday December 16, 2019 at the Drakes Branch Municipal Building, Main Street, Drakes Branch, Virginia. The purpose of the caucus will be to elect the new members of the Charlotte County Democratic Committee. Immediately following election of new members, the members will elect officers of the Charlotte County Democratic Committee. We will elect Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer.
I. Membership Filing:
Each person seeking to become a member of the Charlotte County Democratic Committee shall file a Declaration of Candidacy form with the Charlotte County Democratic Committee prior to the start of the caucus.
II. Notice:
The Charlotte County Democratic Committee shall provide notice of this caucus by placement of a general notice of the caucus, including noticing the caucus date, time, and location, along with the Call to Caucus, on the Democratic Party of Virginia, the Charlotte County Democratic Committee Facebook Page ; by email notification to the members of the Charlotte County Democrats who reside in Charlotte County; and through other reasonable means that will disseminate information about the caucus to registered voters in Charlotte County. In addition, reasonable actions shall be taken to promote participation in the caucus in accordance with the Affirmative Action provisions of the Party Plan of the DPVA.
III. Participation:
Every Democrat who is a registered voter in Charlotte County is urged to attend and participate.
Each participant must sign a written declaration that he or she:
• Is a Democrat and not a member of any other political party;
• Does not intend to support any candidate who is opposed to a Democrat nominee in the upcoming Election;
• Has not participated in and will not participate in the nominating process of any other party for this election; and
• Is registered to vote in Charlotte County.

Affirmative Action:
It shall be the duty and goal of all members of the Charlotte County Democratic Committee to seek out and encourage the broadest possible participation with the committee, and in its membership, of all duly qualified citizens without regard to race, sex, age, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identify, ethnic identify, disability, or economic status.

IV. To Run for an Office:
Those wishing their names to be placed on the ballot at the Caucus shall file their declaration of candidacy by 9:00 p.m. on Monday, December 9, 2019 with the Chair of the Charlotte County Democratic Committee via mail (507 Midway Road, Phenix, Virginia 23959 or by email (overstreetcarolyn@gmail.com). Only those who have properly filed may have their names on the caucus ballot as a candidate. If only one person properly files as a Candidate for each office, they may be declared the winner, pursuant to their vetting as a Democrat who will uphold the principles of the Democratic Party.
V. Conduct of Caucus:
The doors to the caucus will open on December 16 at 6:00 p.m. and will close at 7:00 p.m. and no further persons will be permitted to enter. Those in line will be permitted to complete the check-in process and will be permitted to participate. The Chair of the Charlotte County Democratic Committee, or his or her designee, shall be the Temporary Chair of the Caucus and shall appoint a Temporary Secretary and such other Officers of the Caucus as is deemed appropriate.
