VIRGINIA – New reporting from Hampton Roads’ 13 News Now highlights Virginians responding to Winsome Earle-Sears’ recently unearthed comments telling Virginia women “we need to make our choices before we're pregnant, not, you know, after. You already made a choice.”

Reporter: Comments Lieutenant Governor, Winsome Earle-Sears, made on abortion are resurfacing ahead of a run to become Virginia's first female governor.
Reporter: In a 2022 radio interview with Richmond's Morning News, Sears is heard saying, quote: “We need to make our choices before we're pregnant, not after you already made a choice.”
Reporter: Today, elected Democrat leaders and Planned Parenthood advocates called out Sears for her comments.
Jenny Higginbotham, Virginian who shared her personal reproductive care story: After the procedure, the doctor told me that the baby had gangrene had set in on its limbs, and that had I carried that pregnancy any longer, I could have died. I was able to make a health care choice for myself with my doctor. A woman's reproductive rights should be her own.
Reporter:Now we reached out to Sears and state GOP representatives for a response, and we're still waiting to hear back in an interview.
