As Health Clinics in Virginia Are Forced to Close, Sears Praises Trump Tax Bill for Doing “So Many Great Things”

Winsome Earle-Sears: “The bill as you know now does so many great things”

VIRGINIA – Yesterday, Augusta Medical Group announced three of their locations have been forced to close as a result of Trump’s tax law that Winsome Earle-Sears has praised. Sears said the law “does so many great things” while it will take healthcare away from 350,000 Virginians and force rural hospitals and health centers to close.

“While Virginians are facing the fallout of Trump’s tax bill, Winsome Earle-Sears has continued to praise it, saying it ‘does so many great things.’ Virginians deserve to know why Sears thinks it’s so great that Virginians will lose their healthcare and health clinics are being forced to close,” said DPVA Spokesperson Maggie Amjad.

Winsome Earle-Sears cheered on Trump’s tax bill and dismissed the concerns of Virginians that will lose their health insurance.

  • Sears praised Trump’s tax bill saying it “does so many great things” as it will strip 350,000 Virginians of healthcare, put at least six rural hospitals at risk of closing, and raise healthcare costs by thousands of dollars per year.
  • Last week, when asked about the hundreds of thousands of Virginians who are facing healthcare cuts, Sears lied saying “there are no Virginians who are going to lose Medicaid coverage in Virginia unless that's something that they choose” and then claimed “we're not taking anyone off the Medicaid rolls.”
  • Sears told the 350,000 Virginians who will be stripped of their health insurance and six rural hospitals facing closure as a result of the bill, “don’t panic.”
  • Following Virginia Democrats launching a new billboard campaign calling out Winsome Earle-Sears for backing Trump’s healthcare cuts, Sears again refused to explain why she’s backing the law, and dismissed the devastating impact on Virginians.

Sears lied to Virginians by pushing claims that she can use Virginia’s “rainy day” reserve to cover Medicaid cuts even though the math doesn't add up.

  • Former GOP Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling called Sears’ claims that she can use Virginia’s “rainy day” reserve to cover the Medicaid cuts a “bad idea.”
