Glenn Youngkin steadfastly opposes the American Rescue Plan

Richmond, VA — Today, President Biden’s visit to Virginia is yet another important testament to how vital his administration and the American Rescue Plan have been for Virginia’s recovery from COVID-19. Despite hardline Republican opposition, President Biden and Democrats in Congress delivered critical relief to working families, small businesses, and entire communities across the Commonwealth. 

With the help of the American Rescue Plan, two-thirds of Virginia adults have received at least one vaccine dose, daily COVID-19 cases are at pandemic lows, state-level unemployment fell to 4.7% in April, and Virginia communities are receiving funds for recovery, vital programs, and post-pandemic growth.

Among the Republicans opposing this transformative economic recovery is Glenn Youngkin, the GOP nominee for governor. Youngkin has attacked the widely popular American Rescue Plan — calling it “unnecessary” and saying it “absolutely is wrong” — despite its crucial help for Virginians who need it most.

“Glenn Youngkin has shown Virginians that he will always put Donald Trump and the extreme Republican agenda ahead of Virginia’s recovery,” said Manuel Bonder, DPVA spokesman. “Youngkin’s hardline opposition to the American Rescue Plan and its critical relief for working families and small businesses is unconscionable -- and it is further proof that he is wrong for Virginia.”
