As The Senate Votes To Slash Taxes For Virginia Families, A Reminder That Hung Cao Opposes Tax Cuts For Virginia Families

by DPVA Press

Richmond, VA – As the U.S. Senate votes today on expanding the child tax credit, it is a stark reminder that Hung Cao opposes cutting taxes for Virginia families.

Cao supports Florida Senator Rick Scott’s plan, even calling it “perfect,” that would raise taxes on 35% of Virginians. The tax hikes directly target lower-income families, seniors, and active-duty military. Even fellow Republicans panned Scott’s plan because it would raise taxes on the middle class, but it’s “perfect” for Hung Cao. MAGA extremists like Cao are so focused on cutting taxes for the ultra-wealthy and corporations, they leave Virginia families behind in the process.

In a 2022 House candidate survey, Hung Cao said he would vote to repeal “2021 multi-trillion spending laws,” including the American Rescue Plan which significantly expanded the child tax credit to cut the child poverty rate in half and to its lowest rate ever. While every Democratic Senator voted to expand the child tax credit and cut taxes for working families, every Republican opposed this tax cut.

“Today’s vote is a reminder that Senator Kaine is working to put more money in the pockets of Virginia families,” said DPVA Chairwoman Susan Swecker. “The contrast in this race is clear: Tim Kaine thinks working families need a tax cut and Hung Cao supports tax hikes on middle-class Virginians.”
