Winsome Earle-Sears on Tariffs: “I think that’s good”

VIRGINIA – As Trump’s tariffs and attacks on Virginia jobs cause chaos for the Hampton Roads economy, Winsome Earle-Sears has backed his policies saying she thinks the tariffs are “good” and that she doesn’t think losing your job is a “huge thing.” 

“As the Hampton Roads economy is hurt by the attacks on federal jobs and Trump’s tariff chaos, Winsome Earle-Sears continues to cheer these devastating policies on. Virginians deserve a leader like Abigail Spanberger who will fight for them instead of Winsome Earle-Sears,” said DPVA Spokesperson Maggie Amjad.

• President Donald Trump’s policies around tariffs and reducing the federal workforce could slow growth and send inflation climbing ever higher.

• With around 51,769 federal employees, Hampton Roads is the third-largest metro area employer of federal workers. 

• “Trump’s chaotic tariffs policy could also impact business at the Port of Virginia,” Johnson said.

• Johnson said the tariffs have also caused the biggest drop in consumer sentiment since the 2022 inflation shock.
