Virginians deserve answers about Sears leaving the door open to extreme restrictions on contraception and birth control

VIRGINIA – Glenn Youngkin vetoed legislation that would guarantee access to birth control and contraception for Virginia women. This comes after Winsome Earle-Sears “couldn’t resist” voting against this legislation. In recent weeks, Sears has dodged the media and declined to comment on her dangerous record on reproductive rights. 

“Winsome Earle-Sears’ tie-breaking vote against the right to contraception and birth control is yet another example in her extreme record of opposing reproductive rights and signals her extreme plans to roll back Virginians’ fundamental rights. While Virginians deserve leaders who will protect their rights, Sears supports a dangerous agenda that would strip Virginia women of their right to make decisions about their own bodies,” said DPVA Spokesperson Maggie Amjad.

This leaves one question for Sears to answer: What restrictions on contraception do you support?

  • Sears’ 2021 lieutenant governor campaign website: “I will do everything in my power to stop this act from taking place in Virginia.”

    • Sears attempted to scrub this abortion section from her website around September 2021.

• Sears has declared she is “standing shoulder to shoulder” with the far-right fight against IVF.
