RICHMOND,VA - Democratic Party of Virginia Chairman Senator Lamont Bagby issued the following statement regarding the Supreme Court’s decision on birthright citizenship.

“For more than 150 years, birthright citizenship has been a cornerstone of the Fourteenth Amendment. Yet on his very first day back in office, Donald Trump tried to upend that principle with the stroke of a pen, putting politics ahead of the Constitution, and targeting children born in the United States. Today’s Supreme Court decision makes clear that every child deserves the opportunity to succeed, regardless of where their parents were born, and we will continue fighting to defend the Constitution, protect equal rights, and ensure no one, not even the President of the United States, is above the law.”
