RICHMOND, VA - Democratic Party of Virginia Chairwoman Susan Swecker released the following statement in memoriam of legendary Virginia Delegate and pioneer Dr. Mary T. Christian: 

"Virginia lost a history-maker and an icon. Delegate, Dean, School Board Member, role model, mother - there are not enough titles in the world to describe 'Dr. C'. The City of Hampton and the Commonwealth of Virginia will forever be indebted to her energy, effectiveness, and relentless pursuit of making our home stronger and fairer.

Dr. C's legacy will live long beyond 2019. Her mentorship has created a legion of Democratic leaders that will carry her torch and continue to move Virginia forward. The Democratic Party mourns the loss of Delegate Mary T. Christian, but more so, we celebrate her incredible life and vow to push forward with the vigor and conviction she taught so many of us."
