Does Governor Youngkin Endorse Kari Lake’s 2020 Election Conspiracy Theories and Anti-Abortion Extremism?

by Democratic Party of Virginia

Richmond, VA – After campaigning for unabashed racist Paul LePage and giving the keynote address at the Susan B. Anthony’s List Gala, POLITICO uncovered that Governor Youngkin will host multiple campaign events for one of the most far-right gubernatorial candidates in the country, Kari Lake.

This begs the question, does Governor Youngkin endorse Kari Lake’s radical comments on abortion and her comments peddling 2020 election conspiracies?

Kari Lake has been one of the most vocal politicians who has repeatedly pushed the baseless claim that the 2020 election was stolen – even going further casting doubt on the 2022 elections. Lake has also stated that the 2020 election is the single most important issue in her race.

Does Governor Youngkin endorse Kari Lake’s baseless claims that the 2020 election was stolen and that 2020 election conspiracies are the most important issues facing Americans today?

Like Governor Youngkin, Kari Lake has made her anti-abortion extremism very clear. Lake has stated that she is “100% Pro-Life,” — pledging to ban abortion pills if elected and backing a radical bill copying Texas’ six-week abortion ban without expectations. She also supports an outdated and draconian anti-abortion bill that would imprison doctors for providing life-saving reproductive healthcare.

Does Governor Youngkin, like Kari Lake, want to imprison healthcare providers and ban access to abortion pills in the Commonwealth?

“Governor Youngkin has made it clear that he would rather campaign for extremists like Kari Lake and Paul LePage than do his job as Virginia’s governor,” said DPVA Spokesperson Gianni Snidle. “If Governor Youngkin is going to spend his time campaigning for extremists, Virginians deserve to know if he endorses their radical comments on abortion and false claims that the 2020 election was stolen.”
