RICHMOND, VA – Following the Democratic Party of Virginia’s Central Committee quarterly meeting, the Democratic Party of Virginia announced this year’s winners of the Grassroots Award.
The Democratic Party of Virginia’s Grassroots Award was created in 1995 by DPVA Chairman (and future Governor and Senator) Mark R. Warner. The awards were designed to recognize the invaluable role that Democrats at the grassroots level play in our legislative successes.
Congressional District Committees across the Commonwealth each selected an awardee whose tireless volunteer efforts in the 2022 election cycle exemplified the spirit of our party and helped push Virginia forward in their community. These outstanding Democrats received their recognition this past Saturday morning in Richmond.
This year's thirteen outstanding winners of the Grassroots Award were:
Deanna Bayer
Beth Calder
Taysha DeVaughan
Kristen Gorczyk
Dr. Yvonne Smith Jones
Sue Langley
Sarah Lavicka
Cyliene Montgomery
Rick Schumann
Shenandoah County Democratic Committee
Chuck Simpson
Patricia Harper-Tunley
Maryanna White
“Each of these award winners were more than worthy of the honor. It’s thanks to their ceaseless efforts that the Democratic Party has such momentum in the Commonwealth right now – and we’re confident that their work will continue to pay dividends through the 2023 elections and beyond,” said Liam Watson, Press Secretary for the Democratic Party of Virginia.
