RICHMOND, VA – Democratic Party of Virginia Chairwoman Susan Swecker released the following statement on Republican Rep. Tom Garrett (VA-05) and his bizarre press conference where he decided that he would not quit his job.

"When the tough got going... Tom Garrett was ready to quit. Not 24 hours ago, realizing he was underfunded and falling further and further behind Leslie Cockburn, Tom Garrett was about to throw in the towel.

Now, after an attempt at a face-saving political rick-roll, Tom Garrett wants us to believe he cares about his constituents and serving them in Washington. Give us a break. Garrett has done nothing in Congress besides pandering to extremists like Jason Kessler and working with Donald Trump to sabotage our health care system. He clearly finds public service miserable and doesn't care about the needs of the Virginians he represents.

While Tom Garrett figures out whether he really wants to be in Congress, Leslie Cockburn continues to hit fundraising records and inspire Virginians from Danville to Warrenton. Leslie will spend her time in Congress fighting for Virginians in the 5th District, not meeting with Neo-Nazis and dithering on whether she still wants her job."
