Today, the Democratic Party of Virginia congratulates Supervisor James Walkinshaw on winning the Democratic nomination for the 11th Congressional District U.S. House seat, previously held by the late Congressman Gerry Connolly. The special election will be held on September 9 to fill the seat.
Walkinshaw was born and raised in Northern Virginia and has devoted his career to ensuring that it remains a great place to live, work, and raise a family. He currently serves on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, focused on improving lives by improving pay and benefits for families, extending tax relief to seniors and military families, keeping the environment clean, and protecting federal workers. He previously served as Chief of Staff to Congressman Connolly for over a decade, helping pass significant legislation like the Affordable Care Act, fighting climate change, securing federal funding for Fairfax County, and delivering for federal employees.
"James Walkinshaw knows the 11th Congressional District like the back of his hand, and that’s why I’m confident he’ll be a leader who delivers—and fights tooth and nail—for his constituents,” said DPVA Chairman Lamont Bagby. “From his years of service as Chief of Staff to Congressman Gerry Connolly to his leadership on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, James brings the experience and dedication needed to be both a fighter and a protector for Virginians. The Democratic Party of Virginia is proud to stand with him, and together, we're going to keep the 11th District blue."
