Richmond, VA — Following President Biden's speech unveiling his groundbreaking infrastructure investment plan - the American Jobs Plan - Democratic Party of Virginia Chair Susan Swecker released the following statement:
"President Biden campaigned on a promise to build back better, and he is keeping his promise. The next major step is with the American Jobs Plan, an ambitious agenda to tackle some of our most serious challenges - the growing threat of climate change, crumbling infrastructure that stifles our economy, unequal access to broadband that is a real problem in rural Virginia, a lack of clean water that disproportionately hurts communities of color, and much more.
Not only does this plan make an unprecedented investment in physical infrastructure, it invests in the American workers to build it. From creating new and better jobs for caregiving workers to revitalizing American manufacturing, the president's plan will create millions of high quality jobs and encourage unionization.
Democrats are delivering the significant infrastructure investments that Virginians have long been calling for. Just this week we saw Governor Northam and Secretary Buttigieg announce a historic deal to expand railway travel in Virginia. President Biden's infrastructure plan would benefit Virginians in every corner of the Commonwealth, especially those who historically have been left out of major economic investments. The American Jobs Plan is just the start, and I'm looking forward to seeing Democrats in Washington take bold steps to address some of our country's most pressing problems."
