DPVA Statement on the Anniversary of Roe v. Wade
DPVA Chairwoman Susan Swecker released the following statement on the 43rd anniversary of the landmark Roe v. Wade case that established a woman’s constitutional right to choose:
“Today I encourage all Virginians to reflect upon our Commonwealth’s fight to protect access to women’s health care services. Just a few years ago, Virginians took to the Capitol and rejected the notion that women should undergo invasive and demeaning transvaginal ultrasounds before terminating a pregnancy. And they won. In 2013, Governor Terry McAuliffe, Lieutenant Governor Ralph Northam, and Attorney General Mark Herring unequivocally vowed to protect access to women’s health care. And they won. Elections matter, advocacy matters, and that’s no clearer than here in Virginia. We must continue to reject the shameful, ghoulish rhetoric and lies perpetrated by Republicans who will stop at nothing to infringe upon women’s access to health care.”
