Richmond, VA — Today, Democratic gubernatorial nominee Terry McAuliffe was endorsed by 32BJ SEIU and SEIU Virginia 512. This endorsement serves as an important reminder that his opponent Glenn Youngkin is running on a far-right agenda centered on threatening Virginia workers. While Terry McAuliffe is committed to fighting for working people as governor of Virginia, Youngkin is advancing a dangerous set of Republican policies that are designed to make life harder for those who work the hardest.
Youngkin’s out of touch Republican agenda threatens to make it harder for working Virginians to get by. Youngkin opposes raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour — an overwhelmingly popular policy that would lift up workers across the commonwealth. He has also made clear that he opposes paid sick, family, and medical leave for Virginians. And even as Virginia recovers from this devastating pandemic, Glenn Youngkin opposes the American Rescue Plan and its critical economic relief for working families.
When it comes to protecting and expanding health care for those who need it most, Youngkin has told Virginians that he stands against them once again. Youngkin attacked Medicaid expansion and opposes efforts to strengthen the Affordable Care Act. When asked if he has a plan to lower the cost of prescription medicines for all Virginians, billionaire Glenn Youngkin won’t even bother to comment.
Virginia’s next governor must be a leader who fights for working people and has the plans and leadership experience to lift up all Virginians. That governor will be Terry McAuliffe — not Donald Trump’s hand-picked candidate, Glenn Youngkin.
