Glenn Youngkin’s Extreme Agenda: Putting More Guns on the Streets

by Democratic Party of Virginia

Richmond, VA — Today, Democratic gubernatorial nominee Terry McAuliffe was endorsed by Brady PAC — who emphasized Terry’s commitment to the fight to stop gun violence. This endorsement is a crucial reminder that Terry’s opponent Glenn Youngkin is running on an extreme agenda that will put more guns on the streets across Virginia. While Terry is committed to fighting for more legislation to stop gun violence, Youngkin would make Virginia more dangerous with his far-right gun policies.

Youngkin made his extreme, NRA-approved gun agenda clear when he stated that rolling back commonsense efforts to stop gun violence was his top priority. Youngkin has told Virginians that he would refuse to support any gun safety legislation whatsoever. As the Washington Post Editorial Board noted, Youngkin poses a threat to gun safety measures such as universal background checks and red flag laws.

“I will not sign a piece of legislation that has anything to do with imposing limitations on our Second Amendment.”  —Glenn Youngkin

As he campaigns on opposing all efforts to reduce gun violence, Youngkin has made it clear that he stands with the NRA over the progress Virginia has made during the last 8 years. Just yesterday, Youngkin doubled down on his desire to put more guns into our communities and his opposition to commonsense gun safety reforms.

“Glenn Youngkin has made it clear that he stands with Donald Trump and the NRA over any efforts to reduce gun violence in Virginia,” said Manuel Bonder, DPVA spokesman. “Youngkin’s extreme plans to roll back commonsense gun safety measures and put more guns on the streets would make Virginians less safe. Virginia’s next governor must be committed to stopping gun violence and building safer communities across the commonwealth. Glenn Youngkin will not be that governor.”
