by DPVA Press

On January 13th, Virginians in two House of Delegates Districts turned out to cast their ballots to fill two vacant House of Delegates seats: House of Delegates District 11 being vacated by Delegate David Bulova, who has been nominated by Governor-elect Abigail Spanberger to serve as Secretary of Natural and Historic Resources and House of Delegates District 23 being vacated by Delegate Candi Mundon King, who has been nominated by Governor-elect Abigail Spanberger to serve as Secretary of the Commonwealth.

Democratic Party of Virginia Chairman, Senator Lamont Bagby, issued the following statement about tonight’s results:

“Congratulations to Delegate-elect Gretchen Bulova and Delegate-elect Margaret Angela Franklin on their victories in today’s special elections.

Virginians in House Districts 11 and 23 overwhelmingly made their voices heard and chose experienced, principled leaders who are deeply rooted in their communities and committed to public service.

Delegate-elect Bulova’s decades of service to Fairfax County and her dedication to preserving our shared history have earned the trust of voters, and she will bring that same thoughtfulness and leadership to the House of Delegates.

Delegate-elect Franklin has been a powerful advocate for working families, housing assistance, and social justice in Prince William County, and her leadership will be invaluable as we continue the fight for equity and opportunity for all Virginians.

These wins are a testament to the strength of Democratic values across the Commonwealth. I welcome both Delegates-elect to the legislature as they serve their communities and help move Virginia forward.”
