ICYMI: Glenn Youngkin Doesn’t Care if Virginians Lose Their Jobs, Supports Trump’s Promise to Move Jobs Out of Virginia

by DPVA Press

Last night, Donald Trump took his first step toward his campaign promise of relocating thousands of federal government jobs out of Virginia with the creation of the Department of Government Efficiency, which would advise on how to “dismantle the bureaucracy” and “restructure federal agencies.” Despite the potential devastating consequences Trump's actions could have on Virginia, Glenn Youngkin told the Richmond Times-Dispatch yesterday that even if Virginians lose their government jobs, they can just get a new private sector job:

Youngkin, with a net worth of $440 million, has no concept of what it is like for a middle-class family to survive without an income. He has no concept of what it means to lose healthcare and benefits or to face the challenge of starting over after a lifetime of service in the federal government.

Youngkin is willfully and irresponsibly turning a blind eye to the devastating economic consequences that this will have on our Commonwealth. As the Washington Post previously reported, Virginia studies have shown that federal spending accounts for roughly a third of the state’s economy and cutting the jobs of thousands of workers would be a blow to consumer buying power that would impact restaurants, retailers, and the housing market.

“Just when I think Glenn Youngkin can't sink any lower, he proves me wrong. Virginians' livelihoods are on the line. Our economy is at risk. Yet, he continues to bow to Trump, driven by nothing more than a desperate need for his approval,” DPVA Chairwoman Susan Swecker said. "We will not back down in the face of any attempt by Donald Trump to move jobs from Virginia or to gut the careers of civil servants. While our governor abandons them, we will fight for them.”
