Earlier today, Senator Glen Sturtevant (R-Richmond) attempted to pass a food stamp measure (SB 1482) that was so heartless even his Republican colleagues rejected it. Sturtevant's bill would have kicked 28,000 Virginians off of food stamps in many areas of high unemployment - leaving thousands of Virginians struggling to feed their families.
"Sturtevant is leading the charge against Virginians who are struggling to make ends meet, all while helping his corporate buddies line their pockets. He will be forced to tell voters why he prioritizes taking food away from people instead of investing in workforce development program or tuition assistance," said Emily Bolton, Communications Director of the Democratic Party of Virginia.
