Richmond, VA – Jen Kiggans’ close ally and friend, Republican Senator Amanda Chase, announced today that she would introduce a total ban on abortion and certain contraceptives.
This is the world Jen Kiggans envisioned when she claimed abortion access should be left to the states – allowing extremist allies like Amanda Chase to introduce total abortion bans without Roe v. Wade in place to stop it in its tracks. In an attempt to avoid making her anti-abortion position clear, Kiggans claimed reproductive rights were a “state-level issue” and just a “shiny object” used to distract voters. Now, the danger of Kiggans’ position is clear as day as Chase introduces an abortion ban in Virginia.
Kiggans and Chase are two extremists peas in a pod – constantly voting together and backing each other in controversial situations. Kiggans was one of the few Senators who stood with insurrectionist sympathizer Amanda Chase – refusing to censure her for saying the Capitol insurrectionists were "patriots." She also was one of only 3 Republicans who voted for Amanda Chase's amendment to spend $70 million Virginia taxpayer dollars on false claims of election fraud.
Kiggans is a clear danger to Virginians’ reproductive rights. On the campaign trail, Kiggans indicated that she would support a federal abortion ban. And as state Senators, Kiggans and Chase both voted for a vile anti-abortion amendment aimed to restrict crucial funds for reproductive health care that will disproportionately impact low-income Virginians, and consistently voted against legislation to expand access to reproductive health care.
“Jen Kiggans stands with an insurrectionist sympathizer who wants a total ban on abortion and contraceptives,” said DPVA Spokesperson Gianni Snidle. “Amanda Chase and Jen Kiggans are too dangerous for Coastal Virginia. They are election deniers, insurrectionist sympathizers, and anti-abortion extremists.”
