Richmond, VA – This week, in a landslide win for reproductive rights, deep red Kansas sent a clear message to Republicans across the country – don’t mess with abortion rights. But Jen Kiggans, a political opportunist and far-right extremist, didn’t catch on. Kiggans is still making ending access to safe, legal abortions her core motivation to run for office.
Kiggans is trying to hide her extreme position of wanting to make abortion illegal from Virginians. She’s even gone as far as refusing to comment on whether she’d support abortion in cases of rape, incest, or protecting the life of the mother.
Kiggans [...] have not always been clear about their positions on specific policies and did not respond to questions for this article about how they would vote on certain abortion proposals, restrictions or bans if elected, including whether they support exceptions to abortion bans for rape, incest or protecting the life of the mother.
Then after Representative Elaine Luria, released a new advertisement highlighting Jen Kiggans extreme anti-abortion platform, when asked about her anti-abortion stances by the New York Times:
“Ms. Kiggans’s campaign did not respond to a request for comment.”
This falls in line with her outdated, out-of-touch platform. Her long record of anti-abortion extremism is a danger to women across the Commonwealth. She’s voted for a vile anti-abortion amendment aimed to restrict crucial funds for reproductive health care that will disproportionately impact low-income Virginians, promoted false claims about “infanticide,” and consistently voted against legislation to expand access to reproductive health care.
“Kansans and Virginians alike do not want their reproductive rights ripped away,” said DPVA Spokesperson Gianni Snidle. “But that doesn't matter to anti-abortion radical Jen Kiggans. Kiggans has made it clear that in Congress she’d vote to rip away women’s rights. Her unpopular anti-abortion extremism is out of touch with Virginians and a danger to women across the Commonwealth.”
