Yesterday, Kirk McPike won the Democratic nomination for House of Delegates District 5 being vacated by Delegate Elizabeth Bennett-Parker, who is running for State Senate. With the special election set for February 10, 2026, McPike will begin his general election campaign.
A long-time resident of Alexandria, McPike currently serves on the Alexandria City Council where he has championed housing affordability, climate action, responsible budgeting, and increased public engagement in government.
DPVA Chairman Senator Lamont Bagby issued the following statement in response to McPike's victory:
“Kirk McPike enters the general election campaigning on his strong record of leadership, years of public service, and a deep commitment to his community. I’ll be proud to welcome him to the General Assembly on February 10, where he will be a thoughtful and effective voice for working families and a valued partner as we move the Commonwealth forward in this new chapter of leadership.”
