RICHMOND, VA – On Friday, The Washington Post reported that John Stirrup, a candidate in a highly contested swing district, pledged his support for a “total” and “100%” ban on abortion in Virginia.

Today, DPVA shared the audio recordings of those conversations in which John Stirrup pledges his support for a “100%” ban on abortion.

VIDEO TRANSCRIPT:

Questioner #1: What will you be committing to doing? Like, are you planning on committing to do, like, an abortion ban in Virginia, or what’s your plan on that?

Stirrup: Yeah, I would support a 100% ban.

Questioner #2: So, I hear you, you’re with, like – the governor endorsed you – you’re with this, like, 15 week ban?

Stirrup: You know, it’s a place to start.

Questioner #2: It’s a starting point?

Stirrup: Yeah.

Questioner #2: Alright.

Stirrup: Yeah. And, you know –

Questioner #2: We’ve seen states do more, so –

Stirrup: Absolutely. But, you know, I mean, I agree. I’d like to see, you know, a total ban. But we gotta, you know, start somewhere.
