MUST ASK: Sears Owes Virginians Answers About Her Potential Violation of Virginia Law

by DPVA Press

Sears appears to have violated Virginia law by failing to disclose a free private plane trip and previously failed to disclose gifted trips

When asked about the potential violation, Sears’ team said they were “still trying to figure it out”

VIRGINIA – Winsome Earle-Sears owes Virginians answers after new reporting detailed that Sears appears to have failed to disclose a free private plane trip from a donor “whose business was regulated by the state.” This follows Sears failing to disclose – as required by ethics law – gifted trips valued at more than $15,780.

“Either Sears lied on her financial disclosures when she filed them — and violated Virginia law — or she's lying to Virginians now. Virginians deserve to know what happened with this secret flight and any conflicts of interest,” said DPVA Spokesperson Maggie Amjad.

Questions Sears Must Answer About Her Secret Flight Scandal:

  • Why did you leave the flights off your disclosures?
  • Why won’t you come clean and tell Virginians the truth about the flights?
  • Why did it take you more than two weeks to answer about your gifted flights? And why are you still trying to figure it out after filing your disclosures?
  • What other gifted items are you trying to “figure out”?
  • If you can’t keep your records straight or abide by ethics laws, why should Virginians trust you to lead the Commonwealth?
