Richmond, VA – Today, the Democratic Party of Virginia released five reasons why Yesli Vega is too extreme for Virginia’s 7th District. 

Vega, who was recently described by local media as a “far-right candidate who is notoriously anti-abortion,” has made national and local headlines for her extreme positions on abortion, LGBTQ rights, and the January 6 insurrection. 

She applauded the Supreme Court’s draft opinion to overturn Roe as an “amazing victory,” then doubted the likelihood that women who are raped could become pregnant. Most recently, it was uncovered that Vega supports a nationwide ban on abortion – even in cases where the life of the mother is at risk (Vega believes God – not a doctor or healthcare provider – should solely decide whether a mother should live). 

Additionally, Yesli Vega has made clear she does not support marriage equality. In a recent forum, Vega stated, “I support the traditional definition of marriage,” and as a Supervisor in Prince William County, Vega consistently voted against LGBTQ protections and proclamations.

“Yesli Vega is too extreme for Virginia,” said DPVA Spokesperson Gianni Snidle. “Her radical anti-abortion agenda is a danger to women in the Seventh District. Virginians deserve a Representative in Congress like Abigail Spanberger who holds herself accountable to all Virginians – whether they voted for her or not.”
