RICHMOND, VA — New polling from the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs at VCU shows that a big majority of Virginians support the major accomplishments of the Democratic agenda passed during this year's General Assembly session. Virginians also gave high marks to Governor Northam, with 2/3 of Virginians approving of his job performance.
Highlights from the poll include:
- A majority of Virginians strongly approve of raising the minimum wage. 57% strongly approve of the passage of legislation to raise the minimum wage to $12 by 2023.
- Virginians show strong support for gun safety measures. 77% approve of the recently passed red flag law, 84% approve of the new universal background checks law, and 64% support the one handgun per month law. All three measures have the support of a majority of Democrats, Independents, and Republicans.
- 66% of Virginians approve of the way that Ralph Northam is handling his job as Governor. A previous VCU poll showed that 76% approve of the way Northam is handling the coronavirus crisis specifically.
