President Obama endorses three Virginia Democrats in competitive Congressional races

by Democratic Party of Virginia

RICHMOND — President Barack Obama announced endorsements of Democrats across the country today and three Virginia Democrats running in competitive Congressional races — Elaine Luria (VA-2), Cameron Webb (VA-5) and Abigail Spanberger (VA-7) — earned the President's endorsement. These endorsements are another important boost to these Democrats' campaigns with less than 100 days until the November election.

"I’m proud to endorse this diverse and hopeful collection of thoughtful, empathetic, and highly qualified Democrats. Together, these candidates will help us redeem our country’s promise by sticking up for working class people, restoring fairness and opportunity to our system, and fighting for the good of all Americans — not just those at the top. They make me optimistic not just about our party’s chances in November, but about our country’s future long after that," wrote President Obama in his announcement.

Obama's endorsement is just the latest sign of momentum in favor of these Democrats. Fundraising filings recently released show all three Democratic candidates have major cash on hand advantages over their opponents. Elaine Luria has over $2.8 million on hand compared to Republican Scott Taylor's $310,000. Cameron Webb has over $450,000 on hand while Republican Bob Good reported a paltry $68,000. And Abigail Spanberger has over $4 million on hand while Republican Nick Freitas reported $352,000 before spending heavily during the final weeks of the VA-7 GOP's bruising nominating contest.
