Bloomberg Government: “Earle-Sears said she ‘would be honored to have President Trump’s endorsement,’ [...]”
VIRGINIA – New reporting from Bloomberg Government details how Winsome Earle-Sears is outright begging for Donald Trump’s endorsement despite the devastating impact of his policies on Virginia.
Sears backs Trump’s job cuts that have cost thousands of Virginians their jobs and devastated Virginia’s economy, and downplayed the fallout for Virginians. Sears has also praised Trump’s healthcare cuts that will cause 350,000 Virginians to lose their healthcare and at least six rural hospitals to close.
Bloomberg Government: Trump Endorsement Eludes GOP Candidate Despite Oval Office Plea
- Virginia Lt. Gov Winsome Earle-Sears is continuing to ask President Donald Trump to back her bid in the high-stakes Virginia governor’s race — but the president, as of now, is refusing to endorse her.
- Earle-Sears has met with Trump in the Oval Office at least once to discuss her challenging campaign, and her team has coordinated daily with the White House’s political operation for months, according to sources familiar with the conversations who spoke with Bloomberg Government.
- The former House member [Abigail Spanberger] has specifically focused her message on blaming Trump — and Earle-Sears by association — for defunding education in Virginia, as well as DOGE cuts that devastated federal workers who reside in the state.
- In a statement to Bloomberg Government, Earle-Sears said she “would be honored to have President Trump’s endorsement,” but did not elaborate on the delay or state of the race.
- White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt sidestepped a question on Tuesday on whether Trump would endorse Earle-Sears, saying she left political endorsements up to the president. The White House did not respond to a request for comment on Earle-Sears’ meeting with Trump.
- Earle-Sears has touted her ties to Trump this cycle, despite publicly saying in 2022 she would not support Trump if he ran for a third presidential term. In one of Earle-Sears’s ads, she acknowledges her work to turn out Black voters during Trump’s 2020 campaign.
- Meanwhile, Spanberger’s campaign is focusing its messaging on job losses in the state, cuts to health care, and the candidate’s pragmatic record of working across the aisle.
