SPOOKY: As Sears’ Ghost Town Bus Tour Continues, Virginians Call Her Out for Backing Healthcare Cuts

Where is Winsome: Sears has skipped every stop on her campaign bus tour

GOOCHLAND, VIRGINIA – Today in Goochland, Virginians called out Winsome Earle-Sears for backing Donald Trump’s healthcare cuts that will rip healthcare away from 350,000 Virginians and force at least six rural hospitals to close. Virginians gathered at the campaign bus tour stop, only Sears didn’t show up.

“As Virginians are worried about losing their healthcare coverage and rural clinics closing because of the Trump tax law that Winsome Earle-Sears backs, Sears again isn’t showing up for her own campaign event and instead is hiding from the Virginians she’s ripping healthcare away from. Virginians will keep asking ‘where is Winsome’ until she shows up and answers why she backs healthcare cuts,” said DPVA Spokesperson Maggie Amjad.

Winsome Earle-Sears cheered on Trump’s tax bill and dismissed the concerns of Virginians being stripped of their health insurance.

  • Sears praised Trump’s tax bill saying it “does so many great things” as it stripped 350,000 Virginians of healthcare and put at least six rural hospitals at risk of closing.

  • Sears told the 350,000 Virginians being stripped of their health insurance and six rural hospitals facing closure as a result of the bill, “don’t panic.”
  • Following Virginia Democrats launching a new billboard campaign calling out Winsome-Earle Sears for backing Trump’s healthcare cuts, Sears again refused to explain why she’s backing the law, and dismissed the devastating impact on Virginians.
  • In an interview with CNN, when asked about the hundreds of thousands of Virginians who are facing healthcare cuts as a result of the Trump tax bill Winsome Earle-Sears backed, Sears outright lied saying “there are no Virginians who are going to lose Medicaid coverage in Virginia unless that's something that they choose” and then claimed “we're not taking anyone off the Medicaid rolls.”

Sears lied to Virginians by pushing claims that she can use Virginia’s “rainy day” reserve to cover Medicaid cuts even though the math doesn't add up.

  • Former GOP Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling called Sears’ claims that she can use Virginia’s “rainy day” reserve to cover the Medicaid cuts a “bad idea.”
