Richmond, VA — The Republican Party of Virginia has been more focused on rigging the primary against Amanda Chase than beating Democrats — and they haven’t even been able to get that right. Tonight, Virginia Republicans will once again try to determine how they will select their nominee. With all of their previous attempts ending in chaos, history is not on their side.
Candidates have repeatedly voiced their anger with this process — complaining that “State Central doesn’t have a plan” and “it's not fair,” saying they are “extraordinarily frustrated,” and warning that “the GOP is heading towards a train wreck.” Frontrunner Amanda Chase has repeatedly declared that this process is “rigged,” and is preparing to run as an independent if she is treated unfairly.
While they wait to learn the rules of the game, Virginia Republicans’ continue their long march into extremism:
- Five out of six candidates are declining to say whether Joe Biden legitimately won the 2020 election.
- Several candidates are advancing voter suppression tactics under the guise of “election security task forces” and “ballot security operations.”
- Kirk Cox — whose voting record is “not that different from Chase’s” — opposes marriage equality and is apparently running on defeating cancel culture.
- Not one candidate is willing to distance themselves from Marjorie Taylor Greene.
Is it too late for these candidates to hitch a ride to CPAC?
"The Republican Party of Virginia’s inability to determine how they will choose a nominee has tainted their entire primary process,” said Manuel Bonder, DPVA spokesman. “That’s not us saying it — that’s the Republican candidates running for governor. The question is, why are they working so hard to make sure Amanda Chase isn’t the nominee when she so clearly speaks for their base?"
