Winsome Earle-Sears: “I think that’s good”
VIRGINIA – As Trump’s tariff chaos causes uncertainty for Virginia businesses, Volvo Group North America announced 250-350 local workers would be laid off at its Volvo Trucks New River Valley plant in Pulaski County. The announcement follows Winsome Earle-Sears calling Trump’s tariffs “good” and a “benefit” behind closed doors while refusing to answer questions from the media about the reckless tariffs.
“While Winsome Earle-Sears cheers on Trump’s tariff chaos, workers at Volvo’s New River Valley Plant in Pulaski County and their families face the devastating consequences. Virginians deserve a governor who will fight for their jobs and help grow the economy, and that’s not Winsome Earle-Sears,” said DPVA Spokesperson Maggie Amjad.
The Roanoke Times: Volvo to lay off up to 350 more at New River Valley plant
- Volvo Group North America has informed workers it will lay off up to 800 employees at three East Coast facilities, including 250 to 350 at its Volvo Trucks New River Valley plant, a company spokeswoman confirmed Saturday.
- The company cited the negative impact on heavy truck orders because of market uncertainty about freight rates and demand, possible regulatory changes and the impact of President Donald Trump’s tariffs.
