VIRGINIA – At a joint meeting of the Virginia Senate and House appropriations committees, Virginia Secretary of Finance Stephen Cummings refused to support Winsome Earle-Sears’ lie that she can use Virginia’s “rainy day” reserve to cover the Medicaid cuts despite the math not adding up.
This follows former GOP Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling blasting Sears’ scheme calling it “a bad idea” in a Facebook Post.
“First Sears backed Trump’s devastating healthcare cuts and now she’s lying to Virginians by pushing claims that the rainy day fund can cover Medicaid cuts. Virginians know they can’t trust her and even her own party won’t back up her schemes,” said DPVA Spokesperson Maggie Amjad.
What to Know About Sears Backing Healthcare Cuts:
- Sears praised Trump’s tax bill saying it “does so many great things” as it stripped 322,000 Virginians of healthcare and put six rural hospitals at risk of closing.
- Sears lied to Virginians by pushing claims that she can use Virginia’s “rainy day” reserve to cover the Medicaid cuts even though the math doesn't add up.
- Sears told the 322,000 Virginians being stripped of their health insurance and six rural hospitals facing closure as a result of the bill, “don’t panic.”
- Following Virginia Democrats launching a new billboard campaign calling out Winsome-Earle Sears for backing Trump’s healthcare cuts, Sears again refused to explain why she’s backing the law, and dismissed the devastating impact on Virginians.
