What Coastal Virginians Are Seeing: Luria Secures $5 Million Grant for Rural Health Care

by Democratic Party of Virginia

Richmond, VA – Last week, in another win for Coastal Virginians, Rep. Elaine Luria secured a $4.9 million grant award for the Eastern Shore Rural Health System. This grant supports local health care centers that administer services to geographically isolated and economic and medically vulnerable populations – creating health care opportunities for those who need it most.

This is just another example of Rep. Luria continuing to deliver for Coastal Virginians by supporting meaningful bipartisan legislation to lower taxes, invest in roads and bridges, support our veterans and their families, expand health care accessibility and affordability, and strengthen our national security.

Shore Daily News: Luria Announces $5 Million Grant From HHS For Eastern Shore Rural Health

Rep. Elaine Luria (D-VA), announced a $4,990,091 grant award for the Eastern Shore Rural Health System through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to support local health care centers that provide services to geographically isolated and economic and medically vulnerable populations.

“This nearly $5 million investment to the Eastern Shore Rural Health System will expand high-quality health care and medical services to the residents of the Eastern Shore,” Rep. Luria said. “Getting more resources to our rural communities and the Eastern Shore is one of my top priorities, and this grant award will expand quality, affordable, accessible health care services for residents to get care when they need it.”

“We are grateful for continued support from the Health Resources and Services Administration that allows us to care for Eastern Shore residents regardless of their ability to pay. With this funding, Eastern Shore Rural Health provides care to people who are uninsured, isolated or medically vulnerable. Support from HRSA and elected officials like Congresswoman Luria allowed Rural Health to provide medical, dental and behavioral health services to nearly 31,000 patients last fiscal year,” said Matt Clay Chief Executive Officer of Eastern Shore Rural Health System.

In 2021, the Eastern Shore Rural Health System received a combined more than $5.7 million in funding from the American Rescue Plan to support COVID-19 testing, treatment, and vaccination efforts.

WTKR: Rep. Luria presents $5 million Community Project Funding award to Hampton Roads Transit for facility, fleet maintenance

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Rep. Elaine Luria (D-Va.) presented a $5 million check to Hampton Roads Transit that will help the transit service repair and maintain facilities and buses.

According to a release from Luria's office, the Community Project Funding check will pay for the replacement of a functionally obsolete bus operations and maintenance facility that can no longer house and service HRT's new and existing vehicle fleet.

The funding will also help support year-round public transit operations based out of Virginia Beach.

The award was part of Luria's March announcement where she named seven community projects to receive more than $18.5 million in funding. Those projects will directly address Coastal Virginia's most pressing needs while spurring economic development and growth in the region.

On Monday, Rep. Elaine Luria visited the Eastern Shore to present more than $11.2 million in CPF awards that will support first responders and improve public safety, invest in infrastructure and public transportation, and develop affordable housing.
