Former Delegate Jay Jones, the Democratic nominee for Attorney General, will face Republican Jason Miyares in the General Election. Miyares’ extreme record includes supporting an abortion ban, ripping away access to affordable health care, and backing Donald Trump’s dangerous agenda that harms Virginia’s economy and workers.
“Jason Miyares’ record as attorney general proves he is a far-right extremist who cares more about stripping away rights from Virginians than making life better for hard-working families. He has devoted the last three years to ensuring Virginians have less freedoms than they did before he began his term,” said DPVA Chairman Lamont Bagby. “Jay Jones will fight to protect civil rights, strengthen public safety, and stand up for the rule of law. This November, the choice for attorney general couldn’t be more clear: Virginians deserve a leader who puts them first.”
Miyares’ extreme record includes:
- Refusing to stand up against the ongoing flurry of unconstitutional actions by Donald Trump — from the devastating impacts of Trump’s tariffs and lost jobs to disastrous cuts to our government.
- Voting against Medicaid expansion, a move that expanded access to affordable healthcare for 400,000 Virginians
- Pulling Virginia from the list of states opposing Mississippi’s abortion ban that led to the overturning of Roe v. Wade
- Firing the entire conviction integrity unit, which investigates wrongful convictions
- Supporting Governor Glenn Youngkin’s extreme abortion ban that would make abortion harder to access in Virginia
- Voting against the Voting Rights Act of Virginia, which protects voters against racial discrimination or intimidation when casting their ballot
- Firing the University of Virginia’s counsel, who was on leave to investigate the Jan. 6 insurrection
- Taking $2.6 million in donations from a group that made robocalls that helped incite the Jan. 6 insurrection
