DPVA Statement on Anniversary of
Sept. 11 Terrorist Attacks

RICHMOND, Va. – Democratic Party of Virginia Chairwoman Susan Swecker issued the following statement this evening on the sixteenth anniversary of September 11th:

“Like you, I will never forget where I was at 8:46 a.m. on September 11 when Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center; it was just the beginning of a horrific day that would change us forever.

“Also like many of you, I prayed. I joined my neighbors in raising the American flag and held on close to family and friends, literally or by phone or email.

“As we close out another 9/11 anniversary, we grieve again for such surreal and unfathomable loss of human life. September 11th will forever be associated with the worst of mankind, but we also saw the best of mankind that day. We saw firefighters, police officers, and other first responders give their lives to save others. We saw people of all colors and creeds come together to help and save and stand as one. Let us never forget the humanity and grace that we saw borne from such evil. May we continue to move forward with the same spirit of compassion that was shown in the face of terrorism and hate.”
